This competition gave us a great deal of pleasure, but quite a headache too! The pleasure came from seeing so much imagination from participants in giving the Little Prince his sheep. After the initial amazement and emotion, we had the difficult task of picking the three winners… no easy matter. We would like to thank and congratulate everyone who took part.

Without further delay… the three winners!

We fell in love with Kix’s picture of a sheep emerging straight from the Little Prince’s heart. “It is only with one’s heart that one can see clearly. What is essential is invisible to the eye,” is what this picture reminds us of.

Next comes Gil’s entry: Parmi les nuages (Among the clouds). A sheep made of clouds, that makes the idea of having your head in the clouds appealing. Lovely colours and a good grasp of technique won Gil second place in the competition.

And finally a prize goes to Sylvy and her amusing picture of a sheep that has been swallowed by a boa constrictor (NOT a hat!).   As promised, our three winning artists will receive each receive a copy of the graphic novel adaptation of the Little Prince by Joann Sfar.

Elfain is a young artist from Spain who contacted us recently to show us her work based on the Little Prince. This consists of 3 paintings representing the Little Prince and one of the lazy man who has let himself be overwhelmed by two enormous baobabs.

When she read the story as a little girl, Elfain sensed a certain magic; returning to it later, it was above all the emotional density that captured her attention, as well as the simplicity of the book.

Elfain is selling her work via Deviant Art not for her own personal benefit, but on behalf of the Red Cross in response to its fundraising appeal for Haiti’s earthquake victims.

A few months ago we told you about Jul, an artist who once parodied the Little Prince in French magazine Fluide Glacial. Jul, who sketches live on TV book and literary programme La Grande Librairie, rattled off a series of drawings in the course of the special television programme screened to raise funds for Haiti.

He amused himself by sketching a panoply of famous figures, real and fictional, keen to show their solidarity with the people of Haiti.  These included Simone de Beauvoir, Don Quixote, Marcel Proust, Professor Cuthbert Calculus and… the Little Prince, who asked for a drawing, not of a sheep, but of a reconstruction plan for Haiti.

All these impromptu drawings were auctioned off during the show with the proceeds going to the Fondation de France, which has launched an appeal for donations in aid of the earthquake victims.
